In one sentence

Better Brain keeps your vault on your devices. Optional CloudKit uses your iCloud account. Optional web capture and mirroring upload Markdown and capture text only to a companion server you operate — not to Stuart Technologies.

1. What stays on your devices

Notes, boards, attachments, search indexes, embeddings, and on-device RAG chat remain local unless you enable a transfer below. Widget and Apple Watch previews stay off until you opt in.

2. Optional CloudKit

Device sync uses a private CloudKit zone in your personal iCloud account. Stuart Technologies cannot read it. Sign out of iCloud or disable CloudKit to stop this flow.

3. Optional web companion

Capture and the read-only Markdown mirror are off by default. The Mac app shows a disclosure and this policy before the first upload. If you connect a companion, that server stores:

  • Capture text, optional title, optional source URL, and timestamps
  • Mirrored note path, full Markdown, content hash, and modification time

Remove the Mac credential to stop uploads. Delete remaining copies on the companion you control. We do not operate a multi-tenant Better Brain cloud for this data.

4. What we do not do

No advertising identifier, no third-party analytics SDKs, no tracking pixels, and no vault uploads to Stuart Technologies.

5. Children, changes, contact

Better Brain is not directed at children under 13. Material policy changes update the date on this page. Questions: [email protected].
